Sub: Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places. Reg.

Respected Sir/ Madam,

As per the revised rules related to the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Places which has come into effect from 2nd October 2008. Govt. of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued a Circular and a copy of the Gazette of India to National Headquarters in the name of the undersigned who had attended the Workshop organized by the Health Ministry under the Chairmanship of the Union Health Minister of Health and Family Welfare. In the said workshop the evil efforts of Smoking and the fast rate of Mortality among the smokers were discussed and shown through audiovisual aids in details.

It is a matter of great concern. However the officials feel Bharat Scouts & Guides Organization has always played a vital role in the Awareness Campaign through a few states have taken the Anti Smoking issue in the form of Awareness, Rallies etc. It is expected that each State should take active part in this regard and create awareness among the public by explaining the health hazard involved in the smoker as well as the people around who are in hailing the smoke.

The Ministry has further directed to put up notice board as per specimen given below at the enclosure of Building and at conspicuous places inside the building of the working places. In this regard you are requested to fix the similar type of Board in your State/ District Headquarters at your earliest and inform National Headquarters.

Please do the needful for the implementing the “ Anti Smoking Law” in your State and keep up the spirit of Scouting as expected from us by the Society at large.

            Thanking you,

                                                                                                                                Yours Sincerely,
