Subject: Relief Measures for the Victims of floods in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As you may be aware that Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir State has suffered devastating and merciless fury of nature on August 6, 2010 when the cloudburst in Leh caused widespread destruction causing unprecedented loss of life and property. While the reports of loss is being reported everyday, till now 165 people have died, 400 persons are missing, more than 500 person injured and as many as 20000 person have been rendered homeless. Flash floods further caused loss of life and property.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides and its State Associations have always shown their concern and came forward during such calamities in the past at the time of Tsunami, the Orissa Cyclone, Gujarat Earthquake etc and extended all possible help by providing services wherever possible and contributed in cash and kind to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

We therefore appeal to you and through you to all Scouts/Guides and Rovers/Rangers, Unit Leaders in the Units of Local and District Association to rise to the occasion and donate liberally/raise funds for the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Relief Fund, to help people in distress in Leh and surrounding areas. The donations may be sent to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund directly or through the Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters. The Draft should be drawn in the name of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Jammu and Kashmir. If you choose to send your donations directly, pleases do inform us also so that a consolidated statement of donations/relief may also be sent to Asia Pacific Region of WOSM.

At the National Headquarters, the National Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides has decided to contribute Rs. One Lakh for relief to the Chief Minister’s Relief fund Jammu and Kashmir immediately.
