SUB: 10TH JAMBOREE ON THE INTERNET (J.O.T.I)

Dear Sir / Madam,

The World Scout Jamboree on the Internet is an International Scout meeting on the Internet, which takes place every year over the weekend of the same days as JOTA. This year it falls on 21st & 22nd  OCTOBER- 2006.

Most of the communication takes place over E-mail and in a chat network called IRC. the Internet Relay Chat. JOTI allows you to build friendship with Scouts/Guides in other countries and learn about Civil and Scouting life.

Since 1996 JOTI is an official WOSM event and has a permanent place on the website of the World Scout Bureau. To organise Jamboree On The Air, you have to find out a HAM License Amateur Radio Operator with his Radio to organise the Station. But to organise JOTI, all you need is one or more computers, a modern and a phone line. As Software you need atleast:

·                      A website Browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.

·                      An E-mail programme or you can use the built in E-mail feature of the Web browser.

·                      A chat programme (IRC client) to meet and chat with other people in real time.

To enhance your JOTI experience you can use a fax to send hand written Greetings to other groups.

_          Use a scanner to scan picture and Logos of your Scout/Guide Group and place you live.

_          Connect a computer sound card and talk with other people using a voice capable chat programme or by joining a group chat area.

_          Use a Web-cam to post regular snap shots of your location on your web during JOTI.

WHAT IS NETIQUETTE?   Every form of community has its set of rules. On the Internet they are called Netiquette.

Practice the Scout Law, while on the Internet. The forms, manners and ceremonies established by convention as acceptable or required in social relations, in a profession or in official life, while using the Internet.

We feel proud to say that in India we have established ourselves in a very comfortable state as far modern technology is concerned. Our Scouts & Guides have an easy access to computer.

Hence, why not organise JOTI as many as possible to cover up maximum groups.

To add one step further we suggest that let us organise National (B.S.&.G.) Jamboree On The Internet on every 7th November and motivate Scouts & Guides to enjoy the thrill and adventure with computer and commemorate Bharat Scouts & Guides (BSG) Foundation Day.

We would appreciate your suggestions in this regard.
