SUB.:- Celebration of 138TH
Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October, 2007.
Dear Sir/Madam,
The 138th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October, 2007 is a historic
milestone in the global non-violence. The United Nations with the support of 143
member countries in the world has declared Gandhi Jayanti as an” International Day of
Non-violence”.
The Government has decided to celebrate 2nd October, 2007 i.e. the Gandhi Jayanti Day
As the ‘National day of Dedication’ with focus on community service activities
especially in those areas to which Gandhiji attached maximum significance i.e.
cleanliness, hygiene and dignity of labour. On 2nd October, the Hon’ble Prime Minister
will administer a pledge to the Nation at a function being organized in Delhi. It has now
been decided that the members of the Bharat Scouts & Guides units all over the country
should also
take the same pledge simultaneously.
The above
pledge taking ceremony will be in addition to the programmes of community
service by the
volunteers in the village/slums adopted by them. The Scout/Guide/Rover/
Ranger units in
the state of the Bharat Scouts &
Guides should consider organizing
community
service activities which were dear to Gandhiji. The above programme will be
in addition to
the regular activities being organized on Gandhi Jayanti day by the Bharat
Scouts & Guides as communicated under Circular No.69/07,
dated 22.08.2007. .
You are requested to take steps for organizing different programmes as suggested above
And to make
Gandhi Jayanti as a memorable occasion for the youth.
An Action Taken Report with details of activities conducted along with photographs of

may be sent to NHQ latest by 15th October, 2007.
